DRIVING TO VILANKULO

FROM KOMATIPOORT, (SOUTH AFRICAN BORDER) and MAPUTO

There is now a good tarred road all the way into Maputo from the South African Border at Komatipoort, with a toll halfway between the border and Maputo:

  • Keep on the EN4 until you reach the outskirts of Maputo;
  • The road veers towards the left, keep on the EN4 along the outskirts of Maputo until the next toll station;
  • Go through the toll and take the next road to the left – sign-posted ‘Xai Xai EN1′, (this is the main road north);
  • The EN1 continues to wind its way around Maputo. Head straight (through traffic lights, junctions, circles and roundabouts). Stick to the EN1 until you reach Xai Xai;
  • Continue through Xai Xai (where refuelling is a good idea) and stay on the EN1;
  • Pass through all towns and villages (slowing down to the speed limit and looking out for speed traps);
  • Refuel in Maxixe, then carry on up the EN1 for about 250km. Take a right turn towards ‘Vilanculos’ on the 212 road;
  • Continue straight for 18km, you will reach Vilankulo.

ONCE IN VILANKULO

As you drive into Vilankulo, turn left at the T – Junction, continue for 1.2 kms past the BIM bank. You will be faced with another T-junction and the sea right in front of you. Turn left and continue another 500m. Casa Rex (sign-posted) will be on your right.

Further down this road, you will find the other 2 Sol Resorts properties also on your right - Golden Sands Apartments & Deacra Villas, just over 5 km away in total.

Four days a week, the Federal Air flights collect passengers from Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport at Nelspruit, with an onward flying time of just 1 hour. This facilitates the popular “beach & bush” combination.

There are also regular flights on LAM from Lanseria and Maputo, and a couple of times a week from Inhambane.

Visas - are required & are available on arrival (currently US$85 but subject to frequent change). US Dollars, South African Rand and Meticals are the accepted currencies.
